Like recipes from yesteryear, the personal care products we’ve grown to love over the years have evolved too. Take Listerine for instance. Back in 1879 when it first went to market, it was sold simply as an antiseptic gargle that helped remove bacteria that caused bad breath. But today mouthwash claims to fight plaque, strengthen teeth, prevent tooth decay and provide all-day freshness too. So naturally, the recipe’s gone from a few simple ingredients to include things like Alcohol, Sorbitol, Aroma, Poloxamer 407, Benzoic acid, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium saccharin, Sodium fluoride, CI 42053, CI 47005 the list goes on..
I don’t know about you but while they are considered ‘non toxic’ (that’s as long as you don’t swallow!) they’re not ingredients i’d like to be swilling a couple of times each day.

My forever guy has taken over as chief recipe creator at our place recently and a couple of weeks ago he came up with this Minty Fresh Mouthwash that tastes just like Listerine and costs less than $2 a pop!
Minty Fresh Non Toxic Mouthwash
What it prevents
- Halitosis (chronic bad breath)
- Gum disease
- Oral bacterial infection
$1.22 per 500ml ( worked this our using the doTERRA cents per drop sheet if you were wondering.)
- 4 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
- 3 drops Wintergreen Essential Oil
- 2 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
- 2 drops Thyme Essential Oil
- 2 cups filtered water
Add all of your ingredients to a 500ml amber glass bottle and give it a good shake. This recipe is safe for kids too.
